Dark Light

HIMin seuraava albumi kantaa nimeä Dark Light ja se julkaistaan syyskuun lopussa. Alla varmistunut biisijärjestys ja kuinka Ville Valo kuvaili biisejä Kerrangissa.

VAMPIRE HEART
Ville: "I love that title because it's very goth, and that's alright because that's such a big influence for us. It sounds like mix of John Carpenter's 'Halloween' and Sister of Mercy's 'Alice'. And it's got the first thrash-metal riff we've ever had on album!"

RIP OUT THE WINGS OF A BUTTERFLY
Ville: "This is one of my favourites because it's so celebratory. It's really sweet and fucked up - like when cute little kids rip off a butterfly's wings. It's philosophical, but with a bit of Michael Jackson's 'Billy Jean' in the verses".

BEHIND THE CRIMSON DOOR
Ville: "That's a goth track. I wrote the lyrics in five minutes sitting on a hill in LA having a moment of inspiration. We called it 'Kajagoogoo' when we first started playing it, because it's got a slightly cheesy beginning, but when the guitars kick in it's super-heavy. It acknowledges how wide our influences are."

KILLING LONELINESS
Ville: "We had a really hard time working this out and finalising the lyrics. It's like something My Chemical Romance did on 'Helena'. Very melodic, very anthemic in the chorus, and some very rocking bits you'd hear Zakk Wylde doing with Ozzy Osbourne. It's really heavy."

DARK LIGHT
Ville: "We've been talking about this being the title-track for the whole album. It's one for the ladies out there. It's the most sentimental and poppy song on the whole album, but it's still pretty heavy. Sweet and nice, disturbing lyrics."

DRUNK ON SHADOWS
Ville: "It sounds like if the Beach Boys started playing heavy metal before Black Sabbath did. There's a lot of harmony, but we wanted to have a really creepy, cinematic soundscape feel to it."

UNDER THE ROSE
Ville: "When I was working on it I had that Radiohead song, 'Street Spirit', stuck in my head. It's super-melancholic, but it's got a punkish, heavy-rock feel to it. And it's the first time we use electronica. Kind of Massive Attack on a very bad day."

PLAY DEAD
Ville: "This is our only proper ballad on the album. It's a bit like what we did with 'Sweet Pandemonium' before. It's like This Mortal Coil meet Black Sabbath - a weird lullaby that you'd never want to play for a kid."

FACE OF GOD
Ville: "We want all of our songs to have all the elements of what we do, so if an alien-race heard just one they'd know what we were all about. This is a good example, because we've got crazy, spooky samples and keyboards creating this kind of John Carpenter horror movie vibe."

NIGHTSIDE OF EDEN
Ville: "This is our big epic and we have a choir, too! It's about still having a dream but nobody knows what that dream is anymore. It's just the politics of the heart, but it's not political."
